It’s Takes an Adjustment to Live with Diabets

April 30th, 2010

I have a friend who was diagnosed with diabets just two years ago and even now she’s still having difficulty adjusting to the changes she has had to made. Because of her glucose intolerance, she’s basically had to give up white rice and bread, except in small quantities. In addition, before and after each meal she has to test her glucose levels to ensure that her blood sugar is not too high.

It’s especially bad not being able to eat snacks iwhen everybody else is capable of drinking regular cokes, soft drinks, milk shakes, and eating fries. But, I guess, the silver lining is that at least she’s learning to eat healthy.

So far, just the meal adjustments have been enough to keep the diabetes in check. Fortunately, she doesn’t have to take insulin and while she should be exercising more to lose weight, it hasn’t worsened the diabetes.

It takes an adjustment to realize that the dietary changes needed to combat diabetes are life long changes. It takes a small toll on friendships as well. When we go out for dinner, we usually make an effort not to make her feel ostracized by ordering too many foods that she can’t share in. But sometimes we do forget and feel a bit of guilt as the order comes and she can’t share. Mostly, though, we’ve learned to have fun with it by doing her diet with her. Ironically, this simple act has brought us closer together.

The experience has also made each of us appreciate our relatively good health and recognize how lucky we are.

Disasters in South America and travel

April 30th, 2010

2010 has seen considerable set of disasters in South America – torrential rains in Brazil and Peru, and a major earthquake in Chile.

Late March and early April torrential rains in State of Rio de Janeiro and Rio itself triggered mudslides and hundreds of people were made homeless and more than a hundred died. Most of the damage was in Rio’s favelas, the city slams built on steep hillsides, and the rains are not going to affect arrival of tourists on tours to Brazil as the main tourist season in Brazil is Christmas to late February, the season of Carnivals.

Late February Chile suffered a severe earthquake that caused several hundred dead. Though major damage occurred in coastal areas of Central Chile and travel to the Lakes District and Patagonia has not been affected, tourists may be better off opting for a tour of Argentina instead at the moment.

If you had planned to tour Chile and Argentina simple won’t do, nor rest of South America interests you, perhaps you should ponder the Himalayas and a Nepal tour.

Late January saw heavy rains cause damage to the railway infrastructure between  Cuzco,  Ollantaytambo and Peru’s prime tourist destination of Machu Picchu. Though Machu Picchu was spared any damage due to the damage to the rail line Machu Picchu and other parts of the Urubamba Sacred Valley were closed for all of February and March.

Since March 29, however, Peru Rail has resumed operation of the train service and the Machu Picchu archaeological complex reopened as of April 1. As part of the rail line is still under reconstruction, visitors have to be transferred from Ollantaytambo station to  Piscacucho, the starting point  of the Inca Trail, by bus and from there proceed to Machu Picchu station by train.

While unpredictable, weather and mother nature should not deter you from making your travel plans for the months ahead.

A Primer On Oil Painting

April 30th, 2010

What is Oil Paint?

Oil paint is color particles, also called pigment that is combined with oil. Although the old masters, who made their own paints, mixed pigment with a variety of oils and other substances, today, linseed oil is the common agent used by manufacturers to make paint.

In the hands of a master, the oil paints can be layered and blended on canvas to create rich, beautiful images. But don’t fret if you were not born the next DaVinci, you can always learn how to paint with oils.

Oil paints take longer to dry than water-based paints. The chemical process is different from water-based paints, because oil doesn’t evaporate like water into the atmosphere. If this is your first experience with oil paint, be aware that depending upon the humidity levels at your location, oil paints can take weeks to dry. This is benefit if you want to blend colors but are working on a project that cannot be complete in one sitting. It can also be an issue if you are trying to rush your work to a client before it’s dry. Don’t do it. You can ruin your painting.

A Little History

The painters of old, such as Van Eyck, DaVinci, Titian, and Tintoretto, all made their own oil paints by mixing pigment found in plants, flowers, and other ingredients and then boiling the oil, or baking it in the sun. Some also mixed wax or other ingredients into the concoction. It wasn’t until the mid 1800’s that paint production was industrialized and produced in tubes with caps, similar to the way we buy them today.

The advent of tube-packaged paints gave artists more flexibility and time. Instead of devoting their attention to making paint, they could now concentrate on the work itself. It also changed the way artists paint. Packaged paints gave the artist more freedom, flexibility, and a wide variety of consistent colors. This freedom and flexibility in their life translated into their work and is said to have lead to the impressionist movement.

Using Oil Paint

Select a well-ventilated spot. Oil paint smells like linseed oil and the scent can linger. Also, odorless turpentine which is used as a paint thinner and to clean brushes, is not completely odorless as the name implies.

Of all the tables, canvases and palettes available at your local craft store, the most important instrument to an artist is light. Make sure that you are working in a well-lit space. Natural light is always preferred.

Oil paint is typically painted on canvas. In the same way you paint a coat of primer on your walls before you paint a room, it’s important to prime the canvas so the fibers don’t absorb the oil. This primer used by artists is called gesso. Gesso is a water-based paint. Apply at least two thin coats to your canvas, allowing each coat to thoroughly dry.

Once the gesso has dried, it is time to jump in and begin your painting. You can apply the paint using a brush, a palette knife, your fingers, or whatever works for your. You can draw the image on the canvas first or just apply the paint and see where it leads. However you do it, have fun.

New and seasoned artists can greatly benefit from painting workshops. Workshops give you real world painting instruction in specific techniques. Receive one-on-one oil painting instruction from an experienced artist.

SEO Seattle company – Check out GSEP.COM

April 29th, 2010

When you’re ready to promote your site, there are several things you can do. If you’re in the Seattle area, and are looking for a Seattle SEO company, call GSEP.COM at 1-800-851-7666.

PPC, PTC, SEO, EIEIO (Ha!) and more. (FYI, those acronyms stand for, in order, Pay Per Click, Pay To Click, SEO and Old McDonald’s Farm). It can all be confusing.

The natural or organic rankings that are the primary results in the main part of the search engine results of Google and most other search engines such as Yahoo, Bing and AOL are the most trusted. When I say organic, I mean the results that are not PPC or Pay Per Click.

When you look at the SERPs, or Search Engine Results Pages (the pages that show up when you’ve done a search – the pages that show the results of your search) they show PPC results as well as organic results. So, it can be confusing.

The organic rankings are those that occupy the majority of the left hand portion of the SERPs.

Google, for example, has Sponsored Links above the main body of organic results. Google also has Sponsored Links, vertically, on the right portion of the page. The other engines are similar. The “Organic Results”, which most say the real results, are on the left, below the PPC listings.

How can your site achievetop organic rankings?

1) On page optimization, also known as SEO. You’ll want to make sure that your page has everything that the engine (in this case, Google) wants. It could be Yahoo, MSN, AOL, whatever. Read, study, hire a professional (such as the SEO Seattle company, GSEP.COM).

2) Blogs. You must get posts out here in the Blogosphere.

3) Internal links within your website. You should have links, with the most important keywords, pointing to your home page or to a particular page you’ve had specifically designed to rank highly for a particular term.

4) Linking. You should work to institute a program to increase the quantity of links linking in from outside your site.

Do these things, and more, and you’re well on the way to top SEO rankings. If you’re looking for a top SEO Seattle company, take a look at Guaranteed Search Engine Positioning at GSEP.COM.

Almost all of use can find the time to use a self-paced program, especially if our level of interest is high. Certainly, when you first start a foreign language program your interest level is likely to be very high.

So why would you consider learning a language such as Hindi? Well, you might be one of the growing army of fans of Bollywood films. Hindi is the predominant spoken language for such films. It’s a lingua franca, almost. Then again you may be planning a trip to the Indian sub-continent and want to be able to engage with people in their own language. There are lots of reasons to learn the language, but only you know the one that applies to you.

What sort of resources do you need? For most people, you need a quiet place to learn and a computer with sound (most computers these days have sound built-in). How Can I Check Criminal History Without Charge

April 28th, 2010

The internet has allowed billions of people to search for any information they want. With the right tool, anyone can find relevant data and past records about a person. There are websites dedicated to this type of service and they can be accessed without restrictions. Although there’s a fee, the fact that it can be accessed still makes it an interesting service. Before you check out someone’s criminal record be sure to visit this site here free criminal history report.

How this works is that most people unknowingly reveal there personal information on the net such as filling an online form, participating an online discussion or even when that person committed a crime and it gets published in the news, when that happens, you bet that the search spider will be able to pick up any information of that person on the web.

All you need to do is type in the person’s name with quotation marks around it like so, “James Bond”, and then hit the search button. When the result page comes out, go through every listing on the page to see if there is any information of that person that you wanted. If nothing on the first page, then go to the next one and repeat.

However, when you consider that a person could have committed crimes in a different state or county, doing a public background check could involve contacting hundreds of different offices and asking them to send information for you. The cost could pile up, and the danger is that you wouldn’t do a very thorough search.

Broaden A person’s Stock portfolio with a Coin Collection

April 28th, 2010

Coin collecting is a powerful way to change up your current portfolio is usually to begin a coin collection.  Provide you with direct exposure to precious metals for example gold, silver along with platinum.  It may also be a lot of fun.  With rare metal coming to a record high an effective way to invest will be little by little after some time.  You can start having as little as $25.00, which ought to be good enough to acquire that initial gold eagle for your collection.  The important thing is to become consistent and also help save a little every month.

American eagles tend to be a great way to start a person’s investment. Their particular value will increase while the cost of precious metals goes up and they are a extremely valued coin. Gold coins you will find most affordable, followed by gold then platinum. With several experts predicting precious metal could double from existing prices using a diversified mixed of all three kinds of coins is usually recommended. Start off accumulating newly minted coins from the current year and work your way back.  The freshly struck coins are obtainable and should cost less compared to old coins.

Addititionally there is an opportunity you will get an initial strike coin with an imperfection that is valued at a premium. Eventually you would run into difficult to acquire coins and will need to choose if you should shell out the additional cash because of the rarity.  I tend to buy these coins since despite the precious market values decreases these types of coins hardly ever decline in valuation.

Another thing to take into account is that my personal coin collection tripled in value during the last five years which out preformed many Mutual Funds and major indexes. Make sure you start slow and be consistent and you’ll be amazed how quickly your collection can increase in size and value. The key to having worthwhile investment is to investigation what you’re purchasing before you spend ones own hard earn money.  Stick to this simple guideline and you may be well on your way to making a fantastic return on your investment.

Learn How Suspension-Alternatives can help!

April 28th, 2010

Suspension-Alternatives is your one stop shop for all Lincoln Town Car air suspension parts and suspension conversion kits. Find Lincoln Towncar Monroe shock absorbers, struts, shocks, air springs, coil springs, air bags, air shocks, conversion kits, coil over air suspensions, air ride suspension conversions, helper springs, ride control suspension, suspension air compressors, air bag suspension components and Lincoln Town Car air ride suspension products. Have a suspension problem with your Lincoln Towncar rear suspension or front suspension? Suspension-Alternatives can help.

1. The Lincoln Town Car’s air suspension uses a small, separate air compressor under the driver’s side left fenderwell, with air lines running to the air bags. On the top of each air bag is a electrical valve. This is a relief valve that allows air to be exhausted when activated, and which senses the amount of air pressure within the air bag to keep both sides equal. These valves are operated via a leveling sensor that is attached to the body of the car and to the rear axle by a movable arm. When the rear of the car drops due to increased load, the arm is pushed up. When the arm is pushed up, it turns on the air compressor and fills the air bags to level the car. When the load is removed and the arm moves down, indicating that the back of the car has risen, the sensor opens the valve on the air bags and allows air to escape, lowering the car.

2. If the back of the car is low, indicating that the air suspension is not working, and the air suspension light is on, check the fuse first. If the fuse is all right, check the air suspension switch in the trunk and make sure it is on. This switch is used when the car is in for service. Always turn off the switch before lifting the car, because the sensor will think the car is rising and keep the air bag valves open, ruining the Town Car rear air suspension.

3. Turn the ignition key with the engine off. Listen for the compressor to come on while pushing down on the rear bumper. If it does not come on, test the switch terminals for power, using a circuit tester. If one terminal has power and the other does not, replace the switch. If there is power, turn the switch to the off position, raise the vehicle and place it on jack stands in the rear. Inspect the leveling switch on the axle, making sure it is not bent and is connected. Use an ohmmeter for this test. Pull the electrical connector off the switch. Loosen the arm of the switch from the axle. Test the switch with the ohmmeter by checking across both terminals while slowly moving the arm. There should be no continuity with the arm down. As the arm is raised, there should be continuity. If not, replace the switch. If there was continuity, connect the arm and the electrical connector.
